Curious to know more? Rivera’s Machinery, Inc. in Donna is your Texas Mahindra® tractor dealer. As such, we’ve provided a brief history of this India-based company and its global expansion over the past 75 years.
In The Beginning
Mahindra & Mohammed was founded as a steel trading firm on October 2, 1945, right as World War II was ending. Brothers KC and JC Mahindra joined forces with their partner Ghulam Mohammed. The company was based in the city of Mumbai and eventually gained the ability to produce Willys Jeep vehicles, starting them off in the world of light commercial vehicle manufacture.
After two years, following the partition of Pakistan from India, Ghulam Mohammed moved to Pakistan to become the country’s first Finance Minister. The company was thus renamed “Mahindra & Mahindra” by the two brothers who remained at its helm.
In the late 1950s, Mahindra & Mahindra stocks landed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Soon after, the company joined up with International Harvester, an American agricultural equipment manufacturer, to begin production of tractors. By the 1980s, Mahindra had become the largest selling tractor brand in all of India, which is a position it maintains to this very day.
Mahindra Group
During its beginnings, Mahindra annexed a number of different companies around the world in order to expand their interests. British Telecom, International Tractor Company of India, Maxi Motors Financial Services Limited and Automobiles Peugeot France all fell under the umbrella of Mahindra over time. This resulted in the formation of Mahindra Group, which was built to manage the company’s many services and brands.
In 1994, Mahindra Group split into six units in a mass company reorganization. These Strategic Business Units are: Farm Equipment, IT, Automotive, Infrastructure Development Services, Financial Services and Steel Trading. Every unit manages its own product development across 22 different industries. Mahindra placed 17th on the 2018 Fortune 500 list as a result of their success across multiple platforms.
Farm Equipment
Mahindra’s agricultural machinery division remains its largest industry. The company has been the leading tractor producer in India for nearly 40 years, and their tractors are beloved all over the world. In fact, by sheer volume, Mahindra sells more tractors in over 40 countries than any other manufacturer. Every single Mahindra tractor is built with precision and designed to boost efficiency and increase productivity while still being affordable.
The tractors themselves are worthy of your attention, but so are the many tractor implements and attachments that Mahindra manufactures. Each attachment is designed to make your Mahindra tractor that much more versatile so you can do more jobs with it. Farmers can use their tractors for harvesting, threshing, tilling, baling and any number of other tasks, thanks to the plethora of Mahindra tractor attachments that are available to them.
