How to Wash Farm Equipment
Removing stuck-on mud and grime from your farm equipment is essential for its overall health and longevity. If allowed to sit for long periods of time, dirt and grime will eventually lead to rust and corrosion, costing you a pretty penny in both replacement parts and repairs. To keep this from happening to your important farm equipment, be sure to read our helpful guide below on how to successfully wash farm equipment from top to bottom.
Tools You Need
Washing a piece of farming equipment isn’t too dissimilar from washing a car, and many of the tools you’ll need to complete the job are exactly the same! If you’re doing a basic wash and scrub all you’ll need is your hose, some automotive soap, a scrub brush or sponge, and a few soft towels. However, if your farm equipment is absolutely coated and in gunk and grime, you may need to purchase an acid wash and protective wax to help strip away the layers of dirt and muck stuck to your machine.
Washing Your Farm Equipment
With your hose in hand, begin spraying down your farm equipment from top to bottom, making sure to rinse every nook and cranny on the machine. Once the worst of the muck is removed, go ahead and apply your acid wash, making sure to avoid any mirrors and windows. If you aren’t applying an acid wash, you can jump forward to the next step—scrubbing your equipment.
With a soapy sponge in hand, work on cleaning your machine in sections, rinsing as you go. Not only will this keep dirty soap from drying in streaks, but it should also help your machine dry faster. Once you’ve worked all the way around your farm equipment, give it a few minutes in the sun to dry completely. If you applied an acid wash, be sure to also apply a coat of wax once your machine is dry, before placing it safely back into your barn or shed.
