When there’s a storm or heavy rainfall, the rich soils of your fields can become very muddy. While precipitation might be good for the growth of your crops, it also increases the chances of farmers hitting a soft spot and getting the tractor and attachments stuck in the mud. If you find yourself fixed in place and unable to make any headway while navigating muddy soil, here are some useful tips to safely get your tractor unstuck as soon as possible. Keep reading to learn more, and if you’re looking for tractors for sale in Texas, be sure to visit Rivera's Machinery, Inc. You’ll find us in Donna, where we welcome all those in Harlingen and San Benito.

Avoid Spinning the Wheels

If you try to force your way out of the mud by increasing the tractor’s speed, this can just make things worse. Accelerating might just spin the wheels and sink you deeper and give you even less traction. If you find yourself stuck with wheels spinning in the mud, first ease off the accelerator. Gently press it again to see if there’s any traction. If that doesn’t work, you’ll want to try our next tip.

Back It Up

Try to gradually move your tractor backward with the differential lock engaged. While doing this, make sure that all animals and people are far out of your way before you put your tractor in reverse and try to back up out of the sticky mud. However, if you find this isn’t working, stop immediately before the situation gets worse.

Use a Shovel

A shovel can be used to remove some of the mud around your tractor's wheels. With a little bit of digging, you can get your machine unstuck and back on the field in no time. Scoop away the mud around the tractor’s wheels and create a path for them to roll backward where they can hopefully gain some traction on drier land. To make this easier, you can lay some planks of wood behind the wheels.

Get a Helping Hand

Getting your tractor out of mud requires a lot of effort. If nothing is working and you’re unable to move your vehicle, you may need to call in some help by way of another tractor. You don’t want to end up with two tractors stuck in the mud, so take the necessary precautions and avoid getting the helping tractor too close to the soft ground.

We hope these tips will help you the next time you get stuck with your tractor.
